Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) - Puyurru
Catalog Number: 389/12ny
Water Dreaming represents soakage sites that are naturally occurring wells. During the Dreamtime, two rainmakers created a storm that was so large, it created a giant soakage area that is located west of Yuendumu.
Mickey Singleton works with Warlukurlangu aboriginal artists and has lived most of his life between Yuendumu, an Aboriginal community located 290 kms northwest of Alice Springs and Nyirrpi, a community which started as an outstation as an outstation of Yuendumu, located a further 160 kms west into the bush.
Mickey is married to Jeanie Napangardi Lewis. She is his second wife and he has one daughter from his first marriage.
Mickey paints stories passed down to him from his father and his fathers before him for millenia. These stories are creation stories that relate to Mickey's traditional country.
He has been painting on and off for many years. He did not have access to painting materials while he lived at Nyirrpi as there is no art centre there. He moved to Yuendumu and has started painting every day for Warlukurlangu Artist.
