Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas

Signed certificate of authenticity.

Dulcie has painted Karlyapilyirra a site close to Pipaar, south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert. Central to the artwork is the the necessity of life in the desert - the waterhole. The swirls indicate the saltpans, surrounded by sandhills (orange radiating lines) that shift with the seasons. The red and orange hues reference the different ochres found here that people use for painting themselves at ceremony. Here, Duclie tells of her country, its heritage and its life giving gifts.
