Artwork Description

Acrylic Paint on canvas

Signed with a certificate of authenticity.

Miriam has painted an important Luurnpa Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) story relating to country close to and far to the south of Balgo . The Luurnpa, or Kingfisher, is an important ancestral figure for the area who travelled across the desert leading Aboriginal people to their country. The circles are the tjurrnu (soakwaters) that the Luurnpa created on its journey, the circles at the top are Wangkutjungka men and women. The circles at the bottom of the painting represent Tingari men and the tracks are those of the wallaby. Luurnpa carries a stick in its mouth which holds drinking water.
