Inspired by the remarkable Lindy Chamberlain, whose tragic story of loss is part of Australian folklore. A courageous, gentle, generous and kind woman, this painting dares to try to depict her. Lindy has shown such grace and forgiveness, where others might only find bitterness and defeat. She is a national treasure.
I can only try to paint her in that time of great distress and anguish. In my attempt, I depict her
heart - shown through her dress. It is a tangled mess...bleeding, screaming, desperate for our empathy and our acceptance.
