This painting is an abstract representation of grief. It was done at a time when I was observing my very good friend and fellow artist, Alyce, as she mourned the death of her Oma. Her sadness was palpable and visceral. Gone was the bright red lipstick and the ninja moves, replaced by a slowness, a confusion, a disbelief. The painting represents our emotional heart - the place we feel from - as well as capturing a sense of our actual heart. Despite immense grief, the heart continues to pump, blood flows, the pulse continues. To me it is a painting of great sadness, but also of great love and hope.
