The white edge was painted on purpose. Do you remember the white border on old photos? The edge is a reminder to audience that the painting is based on a photograph. Many contemporary artists paint/draw from photographs, without being at the place or meeting the person, they recreates the scene perfectly. About this scene, Rebecca, the photographer had been there, she captured the scene with camera, posted on social media to show others how beautiful it was. It was beautiful, I wish I was there.
