An interesting project with origins stretching back three decades, stifling hot Sundays spent rolling out lengths of printer paper (when the edges were lined with hole punches and divided by serrated tear-lines) to draw out battle maps. Germans versus the Americans. Both players have half an hour to draw up their Armies, taking turns at annihilating their opponent, one rocket at a time. One gory casualty at a time. The only real cost, a few broken pencils and wasted paper. Tallies were kept but the wars were never won, the game usually retired when it got too hot or we headed into the bush to war it out with sticks and stones for real, the possibility of snakebite while lying in the long grass waiting to ambush the enemy never entering our heads.
