Oil on wood, ready to hang.

We always have one or more extended families of Splendid Wrens on the block, often with a creche of juveniles being taught how to forage for insects when we've kindly been gardening or gathering wood to bring the insects to light. After decades of living with these birds I'm still in awe of the male's jewel-bright plumage, and the subtler beauty of the females and their young. They're fearless little birds too and highly inquisitive so I've had many opportunities of draw, photograph and paint them over the years.
