Waratah and the Tea Towel – An original oil painting created in my Mountain studio in Olinda, Victoria, Australia

by Alicia Cornwell B.A. Fine Art Dip. Education. Fine Art

Measuring 50.8cm (W) x 76.2cm (H) x 3.5cm (D) (unframed), this is an original oil painting on stretched canvas featuring a vase of Waratah and Flannel flowers.

My current works in oils are exploring my interest in Vintage and Antique fabrics sourced from my extensive range I have collected over many years.

Before moving to painting full time, I worked as an Antique dealer / Vintage merchant supplying beautiful items for interior design. As a result I have quite the collection of special pieces and am enjoying mixing their unique qualities as subject matter into my artwork.

The inspiration for this painting was a collection of vintage tea towels from the 1950/60’s. I was interested in the way the designs were screen printed onto the linen and wanted to show the subject not as realistic subject but rather as part of a fabric pattern with a flatter representation. The colours on these unused tea towels are bright and punchy so I used many of the spectrum colour oils in this to give more of a poster paint effect.

This painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity with a professional wire hanger to the back ready for your wall
