This is a piece from my 'Bride' series, which hung at my exhibition The Mother Wound August - November 2019, at Fairfield City Museum and Gallery.
The Brides were inspired by a stack of family photos from the 70s and 80s, They're dedicated to the women who married and migrated into diaspora during that period, often too young, and leaving all their friends and family behind. Such a hopeful thing to do - beautiful but also sad because it was so often followed by barriers, isolation, hard work, abuse and heartbreak.
