This painting depicts three grandmothers sitting in a park in Western Sydney. It draws on my experiences of long afternoons spent in parks as a child while older women sat in plastic deck chairs sometimes smoking argileh, drinking Lebanese coffee and nibbling on pumpkin seeds. In the background, there is a Jacaranda tree; the purple flowers are striking against a dusky sky. It is a celebration of the matriarchs who make these moments magical.
This painting was created during my Incubate Residency in early 2019 and was part of my exhibition Malika/Queen of the Home at Bankstown Arts Centre.
