Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

In 2019 on a road trip from Adelaide to Uluru I was captivated by Lake Hart. Last time I drove this way it was bone dry. This time the mirror like surface reflected the endless blue sky. The far bank, rich in colour, was reflected on the lake. A thin layer of salt divided the reflection from the actual bank as a reminder that this lake was owned by the Commonwealth Salt Company (CSC). The CSC farmed salt from the lake for many years as it was the purest and saltiest salt in the Commonwealth. The infrastructure remains and is featured in the painting. CSC Workers pushed water into the stalls, closed them with barge boards and sunlight and heat transformed it into table salt.

My challenge was to capture the vast blue sunlight and its reflection on the lake.
