On my many drives to the North of WA I always come across these station cattle that are just a mix of everything, beautiful in their own way. They are usually a lovely brown, caramel colour, mixed with a little red dirt. This winter has seen good rain in many parts of WA so the dark skies in the background are fitting. Unfortunately the East has not had such luck. I always had this in mind while painting this piece, willing for it to start pouring over there.
I love to paint cattle and horses for their beautiful shapes and contours and thoughtful eyes. They are another favourite subject of mine. Usually combined with an abstract, textural background of blended colours or greys.
