Mixed Media on wood, ready to hang.
Signed on the back.
This series was inspired by long-ago (but still continuing) events of the 'War on Terror'. The central concept, which I used in quite a few artworks, was of a person faced with events beyond their understanding or control - in this case, a soldier facing a strange, half-obscured tower. This was a metaphor for the allied soldiers going into Iraq and Afghanistan and finding a situation that was beyond their expectations. Instead of a simple mission, it would prove puzzling and complex.
Paintings in this series were included in several shows over the years, including the Gosford Art Prize, Blacktown City Art Prize, Gallipoli Art Prize, the Sulman Prize and the Mosman Art Prize. I was very fortunate to have them included in the show 'Guarding the Home Front' at Casula Powerhouse in 2015, and in 2021 this particular painting was featured in the 'Space YZ' show at the Campbelltown Arts Centre.
This is a mixed media work on MDF, reinforced by plywood bars on the back. It's quite a heavy, solid artwork. The sides are painted white, and it is ready to hang without needing to be framed.
