Expressionistic skull painting‚ with bold brushwork. The skull is painted in Quinacridone Magenta‚ Quinacridone Red Violet‚ Brilliant Magenta and Titanium White‚ the background is a charcoal grey. I wanted a very saturated colour with contrasting white highlights.

Despite the grim subject matter‚ this is a painting with manic energy‚ from the angle of the lighting‚ and the upside-down orientation‚ to the rich colours and powerful brushstrokes. The monochrome background provides some balance and containment.

Please note that this is slightly smaller than 'Weekend at Bernies 2'‚ and the colour scheme is similar but not identical (Bernies used some ultramarine blue and cadmium red‚ and had more blue in the background).
