Sinclair Oil is a large American oil company, and for decades they have used the silhouette of a large green Brontosaurus as their logo - an advertising icon, seen on roadside signs, bowsers and oil cans.
This painting continues in the vein of my pop art series, taking a known image and distorting it - the surface is built up of drips and spatters, layers of overpainting, warped text and accidental lines. In this way, a nice contest of order and chaos is achieved. The painting has a glossy varnish.
Oil comes from prehistoric plants and animals (such as dinosaurs), and millions of years later we use it to produce paints (and toy dinosaurs, and thousands of other products), so there's a kind of humour in bringing this full cycle - dinosaur > oil > paint > dinosaur painting.
This painting is ready to hang, and will not require framing. A colourful artwork that will appeal to lovers of dinosaurs, retro advertising, and pop art.
