This is it - number 300!
I started painting these paintings in October 2015, so I've painted roughly 100 a year for 3 years. They've sold very well (beyond my dreams, actually), and been included in various art prizes and in some of Australia's best commercial galleries. I try to experiment with them, working on variations of size, materials, colours, composition and application. For quite a while now I've been wanting to take them in a more abstract, freeform direction, and this painting is one result of that. It's something that I'll return to in future paintings.
This is a large painting, 152.5cm wide by 101.5cm high, with painted sides, ready to hang without needing framing. The surface of the canvas is covered with many layers of paint, and so has a thick texture, with drips and runs. As always with this series, it's a contest between design and chaos. The shapes and colours reference the spines of books, and the oval shapes and curves on the covers of the classic Penguin paperbacks.
A bold, colourful, impactful painting, for lovers of books and of abstract art.
