Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

This particular Unpopular Penguin was inspired by Jasper Johns' 1958 painting 'Three Flags'. Where his painting was a triple image of the American flag, I've stuck with a penguin paperback book. My entire series was inspired by Jasper Johns' works, taking well known imagery and transforming them with rich paint into textured works of art.
This is one canvas, painted with thick layers of paint and some ceramic medium for a gritty texture in places (please see the close-up photo). Please note that the sides of the canvas are painted, and it is ready to hang without needing to be framed.
Former director of the Art Gallery of NSW, Edmund Capon, said of the first painting in this series, " an evocative imagining of the familiar Penguin Paperback...it was a painting we all liked very much for its rich texture, its sense of memory and its sort of nostalgic humour"
Note that I am happy to take commissions, of any book you choose, in a range of colours and sizes.
A striking painting that will look great on any wall.
