About

I have a background in art and science and currently am a full-time artist. I have been drawing since I was young and have exhibited my art in 13 solo shows and many national art prize exhibitions and selected group shows.

In 2016 I relocated my studio from Sydney to Port Macquarie, a coastal town on the mid-north coast of NSW, Australia. The paintings and drawings I create are either based on my dreams or subconscious musings, scribbled down then tweaked into something that might be worth sharing on a larger scale, or more refined abstract works that explore the connections between man and the natural environment. Check out my website (www.berichenderson.com) for more information. I paint my own ideas and aim to produce significant and meaningful bodies of work that inspire others as well as myself.

Influences

I have been influenced by other artists including Hopper, Giacometti, Pollock and Seurat. I have also been influenced by film directors such as Hitchcock and writers like Kafka. The classical and mysterious elements that only slowly become revealed after further scrutiny has been very influential on my thinking and my view of the world, and is something I strive for in all my works, whether figurative painting or abstract works.
