It's more than 2000 kilometres from Rome to Canterbury along the Via Francigena. Pilgrims have walked this historic trail for centuries in a bid to avoid the flames of Hell.
Not this fearless faithless one.
We set out on a relatively small section purely to enjoy this incomparable countrysite. Fat chance. This marker - see the hunched little guy bottom right - was the first and only clue we were given as to where the bloody hell we were headed. Hopelessly lost, we soon saw our lives in limbo as the heavens opened up to drown us there and then. Luckily - or was it misguided divine intervention? - we managed to surf a landslide down the mountain side and land god knows where in one piece.
It's a bloody miracle!
