Rudi is widely regarded one of the ‘big hearts’ of the Australian circus community, and has recently ‘retired’ from live performance after 20 years of touring the world with Circa Contemporary Circus as a core ensemble member. In order for him to pass on his knowledge and good attitude to the ever-changing ensemble, they created the Head of Circus position for him.
In this work, I’ve been thinking about his present time in his career, his various injuries, love of touring, as well as the strain that touring had put on his personal and family life. He is exceedingly strong, but has many questions to answer about his relationship to his life.
In sleep, the physical dissipates to the abstract, what is indelibly marked, floats off and becomes part of the etherial. Nothing is permanent.
