2. Jori Poutanen
Jori Poutanen is an oil painter based in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, where the lush rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef provide endless inspiration. 5. Amaria Stark
Amaria Stark is a primary school art teacher who finds time to paint whenever possible. For Amaria, art is a way to focus on what is lovely and sound in a world often filled with sadness and confusion. “Different people use art to express different things—but for me, it is a way of focusing on what is lovely, good, pure and excellent,” she says.

Marie Riordan, originally from Orange in the Central West of New South Wales, spent much of her childhood painting and drawing. Her passion for art led her to Sydney, where she spent four formative years at Art School, majoring in painting and drawing. After graduating from UNSW, Marie harnessed her eye for form, colour, and texture to build a successful fashion design, manufacturing, and retail business she ran for forty years.
Upon falling in love with the beauty of Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast, Marie transitioned to painting full-time. She finds inspiration in the vibrant colours of the local bush and bird life, believing there is no greater beauty than nature.
