When you climb to the top of Donkey Mountain in the Gardens of Stone National Park and climb through the slot in the cliffs you find yourself in a maze of canyons connected by caves and slots. At the north end of the maze is a large open area defined by pagodas with this 5 metre high sandstone rock sitting upright like a marker or temple. Its southern side is covered in moss and the northern side has calved off to reveal the soft compartments of ochres that are eroding inwards.
I drew in the afternoon as the sandstone coloured bright orange and the lines of shadow trunks grew bluer.
