Wadjemup - Walyalup means Rottnest to Fremantle. Rottnest is a small island off the Western Australian coastline that was once connected to the mainland, after the last time the seas rose Rottnest became separated from the mainland.

You can see the sand banks in the Derbarlmarra (the sea that separates Rottnest from Fremantle)
clearly in the bottom half of the artwork were the connection used to be.

Rottnest has multiple salt lakes on the island as picture on the left of the artwork and is known for its beautiful blue and turquoise water.
