Macintyre River buubumurr (Gamilaraay for platypus). I chose to do this painting in yellow acrylic coupled with traditional ochre pigments. The colour choice makes it a much more contemporary work to hang in someone’s home or office to enjoy.
The white ripple stream highlights the geometry of the water. A large range of yellows for the bubble streams were mixed in different ratios in glue applicator bottles to add interest to the background. Various ochres were applied with natural sea sponges to bring the buubumurr to the foreground. The outline of the buubumurr was done through plaiting paint with an embossing tool. The dot pattern on the buubumurr’s body illustrates its primary sources of power.
