The Karri Forests in the Western Australian southwest are one of the most incredible ecosystems and uniquely beautiful. The towering trees are stunning, but I also found inspiration looking down at the forest floor. The gold tinted Karri bark, leaf litter, mushrooms, ants, beetles, grasshoppers, and butterflies, little fallen flower blossoms...this series is just one set of paintings on this theme. The impasto oil technique and impressionistic brush strokes reflect my emotional response . I used the Art Spectrum Australian colour range for these paintings to give the depth and vibrancy of the natural environment.
