‘Versailles’ is the second piece in the Textured Gardens collaborative series between Brittany Dixon Art and The Fern Journals.

Combining Brittany’s oil painting and Georgia’s embroidery skills, we’ve created a unique series that brings new dimension to an artwork.

This particular piece was inspired by a visit we took to the Palace of Versailles when we were lucky enough to see France in 2017. We were enamoured by the elaborate formal gardens, and knew as soon as we started planning the Textured Gardens series that this incredible place needed to be included.

Oil and embroidery on canvas. Framed. The ‘Versailles’ canvas measures 30x30” / 12x12” . Dimensions with frame: 32x32cm.

Wired and ready to hang.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

An oil painting of orange and pink poppy flowers in a warm glass vase on canvasOil painting of a little hut on Achill Island in Ireland, green grass and blue ocean with cliffs below. This is a painting of the first-to-bloom nasturtium flowers I grew from seed. I love their unruliness and the green and orange colour combination. I also wanted to capture the flowers’ shadows and compliment their wild, free growth with plenty of texture.Poppies have a wild, unruly nature to them which has always captivated me; their petals are like tissue paper, soft and ephemeral and unique in each flower.

This painting is an exploration of colour and texture, and hopefully a pretty reminder to always bloom wildy, like poppies do in spring.
