Oil Paint on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
Inspired by the timeless use of drapery as a framing device in painting, this work, 'There's a stranger here...', comes from Esbenshade’s ‘Repoussoir’ series that considers what these compositional elements could have bore witness to, the narratives that play out in traditional genre paintings and what additional un-captured dramas could be occurring outside the frame. This work features a piece of red satin suspended by by a nail and by a gold rope that ratchet up the tension through the contortion of the object through it’s being bound.
