Catherine Stringer is a Hobart based artist who has been exhibiting her underwater inspired paintings for over 14 years both locally and further afield. More recently she has been developing techniques for working with seaweeds to create delicate handmade paper artworks. A highly successful solo exhibition in 2016 focused on the wreck of the Neva convict ship in 1835 and consisted of works made from seaweeds gathered from the shipwreck site in honour of the victims .
Current work is inspired by a recent residency in Iceland where Catherine explored Icelandic seaweeds and the Icelandic folk tale of the Seal Woman. This work is on display at red gallery, Brunswick North, from 13 June until 1 July 2018.
