In this painting I chose items that relate to myself on a very personal level and set these items in a bed of pebbles. I then proceeded to lay down layers, by flooding them with a wash of water, so they appeared sunken, adding shadows cast by the koi and then the topping them with the waterlilies. It sounded a very technical painting, but to me, has ended up being very personal, with heartfelt meaning. Even the task of picking out the elements, that make you, “you,” can be a difficult task, but worth the effort.
