About

About the Artist:

Born in Sydney Australia Cherie J. Payne spent some of her earlier, formative years residing in New Zealand, located at the base of snowy Mt Taranaki (Mt Egmont). And has more recently resided in Townsville for the past seventeen years, the largest urban centre of Far North Queensland.

Cherie's is currently completing a Diploma in Art Therapy with prior artistic studies completed at James Cook University under the guidance of artists/lectures: James Brown, Ric Schmit, Connie Palomo, Anneke Silver and Anne Lord. Cherie completed a Bachelor degree followed by an Honours degree in Visual Arts, graduating in 2007. Cherie went on to complete her Masters in Social Work at James Cook University in 2015. Earlier creative endeavours and studies for Certificate IV and Diploma in Art were taught by artists/TAFE lecturers: Lenore Howard and Jill Chism in Cairns, Far North Queensland.

Cherie works mostly in oil paint on canvas and the theme underpinning her artwork is a mixture of: emotionally associated imagery, family ties, grief & loss, nature & spirituality. Her work has been described by fellow artists as quirky & elegant.

Like Alphonse Mucha Cherie agrees that: Art is Eternal.
