This was a class demonstration piece, the purpose of which was to illustrate a method by which complex shapes could be drawn out of a soft and loose burnt sienna block in. The first layer was burnt sienna, with emphasis on correct tonal value and large areas in 'more or less' the right places. Editing then further resolves the shapes by subdivision - moving edges and paying careful attention to their nature. Once the shapes are close, colour work can begin with more fluidity.
