Artwork Description

Other Media on paper, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

The horse is gazing toward something. When something catches a horse's attention they narrow their focus so that all periphery information is shut out. Horses have a keen sense of focus. In this painting I have emphasised his enquiring look..."what is it?"
In many of my horse paintings the horse's eyes are my focal point.

All art by Christine Lawrence

Background reds and browns were first. In all my work I use charcoal to draw in my subject. then I rub most of the linework out just so I can see the edges. Then comes the paint. It is an organic process. Finally with an almost dry brush I place the light shafts over the whole work. In a mystical encounter, the horse and the bird engaged with each other in a spiritual dance, their energies intertwining, creating an ethereal harmony that transcended the boundaries of the physical world. My process is always organic, once I am satisfied with the drawing's accuracy. You will see in most of my work garden, floral and symbolic themes. I paint them into my subject's body. The symbolism is always about beauty and freedom.
