Artwork Description

The parrots are imaginative versions of Crimson Lorikeets and King Parrots. Painted loosely with colour runs. This is where I begin with an idea of set colours then let the paint take over to see what happens.

All art by Christine Lawrence

Background reds and browns were first. In all my work I use charcoal to draw in my subject. then I rub most of the linework out just so I can see the edges. Then comes the paint. It is an organic process. Finally with an almost dry brush I place the light shafts over the whole work. In a mystical encounter, the horse and the bird engaged with each other in a spiritual dance, their energies intertwining, creating an ethereal harmony that transcended the boundaries of the physical world. My process is always organic, once I am satisfied with the drawing's accuracy. You will see in most of my work garden, floral and symbolic themes. I paint them into my subject's body. The symbolism is always about beauty and freedom.
