I love nighttime paintings and was inspired by one of my photos taken a couple of years ago. The Derwent River was very calm and peaceful that night. The view is across to Salamanca Place from the eastern side of Sullivan’s Cove with the edge of Hobart’s CBD on the right hand side. Whilst there is no artistic influence, I was inspired by looking at Google Images of night paintings. I normally paint slowly but after preparing the canvas with black Gesso, the painting was completed in one evening.
