The Hanging rock is found near Baltzer Lookout at the end of Ridgewell Road‚ Blackheath. This rocky outcrop overlooking the Grose Valley‚ is around 100 meters high and is partly detached from the main cliff. The sky colour and lighting in this painting suggests mid-morning with strong sunlight‚ coming from the left side of the painting‚ hitting the top parts of the rock formation. Most highlights were painted using bold brush strokes and painting knife giving it a more realistic look.
