Encaustic medium, tissue paper and oil paint on board
Soft, subtle, transparent layers of tissue paper and oil paint in between encaustic wax medium are used to create a feeling of depth and mystery. Fine details and a soft colour palate have been combined to create this pretty little piece.
This piece is unframed, i recommend having it professionally framed with a timber float frame
What Is Encaustic?
Encaustic is a wax based paint (composed of beeswax, resin and pigment), that is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied to a porous surface and then reheated in order to fuse the paint. The word ‘encaustic’ comes from the Greek word enkaiein, meaning to burn in, referring to the process of fusing the paint.
Encaustic is also a very durable artists’ paint due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to moisture. Because of this, it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow and it will not darken. Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished or protected by glass, it is best framed with a float or box frame to help protect it's delicate edges. It is recomended that you do not hang it in direct sun light, or keep it in a hot car as it will be affected by extreme variations in temperature. That being said, there are encaustic paintings that were created back in ancient Greece and Rome that are still as vibrant today as they were when they were created.
