A beautiful raptor that is a single worldwide species - found on every continent but Antartica. Under a great deal of pressure in some of its range with concerted conservation programmes in some parts of the world. I regularly see this bird on the NSW South Coast in the Shoalhaven estuary and nearby beaches. Takes fish in spectacular fashion in flight often requiring all the available lift from its powerful wings.
