Superb Blue Wren - a member of the Australian Warbler family - and a "Wren" by nostalgic naming only. Early settlers probably thought the rather plainer, mostly brown female was near enough to the so familiar and equally loved Jenny Wren of Great Britain. The Superb Blue Wren, like all the small warblers in their family is probably endemic to Australasia.
To emphasise the vagaries of naming in a big continent this bird also revels in these aliases - Blue Bonnet, Bluecap , Blue Wren, Cock-tail, Jenny Wren, Mormon Wren, Superb Warbler.
These delightful little birds are regular visitors to our suburban garden and sometimes the males will peck at their reflection in our lounge-room window - not looking for food but for a scrap of another type - with the intruder in the mirror.
