The Australian Magpie holds a special place in the hearts of Australians. It has the most beautiful flute-like singing voice - often delivered as a duet - or in an even bigger ensemble. It has also thrived despite urban development and has adapted to our presence to an extent that they can become semi-tame - particularly if meaty scraps or pet-food morsels are provided occasionally. (Please don't overdo.)
These two birds were feeding, socialising and singing at our local dog-park the other day . They seem not to be afraid of humans or their dogs and fortunately they are a little too large and feisty to be bothered by cats.
This study is rendered in watercolour on Saunders Waterford 300gsm archival paper. A durable and unique gift for that special place, person or occasion.
