“Eternally Murmurs the Sea” Acrylic on Stretched Canvas 152 x 92cm.
The inspiration for this painting had been evolving in my mind for a long time and came from a photograph I took while on a holiday cruising the Mediterranean in 2016. The image was of the rocky crystal clear seawaters surrounding beautiful Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Focusing in on just a small section of the photo I was attracted to the interesting rock shapes in amongst the turquoise water. Using liquefied acrylic paints loosely and abstractly I painted winding rock shapes before building form and working on the sand between the rocks, remembering the light source and shadows. Once the rocks and seabed were dry enough I started building up glazes of turquoise water, produced from transparent washes of Pthalo blue, Pthalo green, Cobalt Turquoise and Indian yellow mixed with heaps of acrylic glazing medium. The next step was the sunlit glints and directional reflected sky areas on top of the ripples and the shadow of the ripples. Surprisingly the refinement of this part took quite some time but I’m very happy with the results.
This is the area where some of the TV series Games of Thrones was filmed. With the ancient stone fortresses and towers perched above the water you couldn’t help but think about times past and wonder at the sea watching and eternally washing over and over that rocky seashore.
The Seascape image continues over the edges of the painting and is unframed, but if framing is preferred, a boxed float frame would look beautiful and allow for the painted sides of the painting to still be seen by the viewer.
The artwork has been coated with a layer of acrylic fast fixer medium to isolate the paint from the final layer of protective satin solvent varnish.
Ready to hang with both traditional D-rings and Picture Hanging Cord as well as extra D-rings for Gallery Picture Hanging Systems.
