About this Curation

Florence Nightingale understood art had healing powers. In 1859 she wrote that showing patients beautiful objects could be an “actual means of recovery”. More recent research has backed up her theory that displaying works of art in waiting rooms, surgeries and hospital rooms – in particular paintings of nature with colours blue and green – speeds up recovery time- reduces the need for painkillers and helps to keep patients calm.

About the Curator

Janni is bluethumb’s in-house curator, she knows our artists and their art like the back of her hand. Being an artist herself she has an even greater appreciation of other artists’ creations. Career highlights include curating exhibition Icons Uncovered, also at SALA festival, Melbourne Fringe and Midsumma. Janni has an eye for artworks that compliment each other and has curated many private collections.
