Artwork Description

Oil on linen

Signed certificate of authenticity.

Oil painting of the Roman Puente de Alcantara across the Rio Tajo (Tagus) in Toledo Spain. During the reign of Alfonso X of Castile it suffered serious damage and was rebuilt. The western tower belongs to this period, later decorated under the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, whose arms decorate its walls. The fruit of the pomegranate (the emblem of Granada) is missing from them, because the Reconquista had not finished at that time.
The eastern tower was replaced by a Baroque triumphal arch in 1721, because of its ruinous state. Painted on linen by Dai Wynn. 20.3 cm high by 25.4 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately. I recently realised that I had painted this scene in watercolours many years ago and had sold the artwork.
