This artwork is from a series that investigates our collective engagement with the modern world. This piece suggests a relationship between the built world and the natural one. In this scenario an appealing, highly decorative forest is juxtaposed with a sewer construction zone. Neither element occupies its own space, though, as each demands attention from the other. Although offering a sense of lush natural foliage, the forest is itself a fabrication, born of multiple replicated forms in perfect and ultimately unnatural symmetry. There is a feeling of dominance in the work as the trees appear to loom over the scene, yet the orange safety post commands ultimate focus. Does it spoil this scene or enhance it, though?
