Artwork Description

Mixed Media on paper

Signed on the front.

The idea was to capture the difference between a real person (the girl) and a toy (the doll). The idea was to have a complex expression that was somewhere between fear and wonder that reflected the experience of a young child‚ not knowing whether this was something amazing that she was being confronted by or something she should be afraid of. The challenge was to try and capture a tightly held toy versus the lifelessness of the doll itself. The picture was in biro but I needed to add texta to get the required depth of black without shredding the paper.
