The Black-Breasted Buzzard is a highly intelligent bird of prey that lives in the arid zones of the Australian continent. One would be surprised to know that they can be trained to perform for audiences, having an excellent memory for tricks and verbal commands.
I encountered this particular bird at Healesville Sanctuary, Victoria. With its stunning brown and black plumage, a half-body portrait was enough to suggest the remaining feather colours. The idea is to illustrate a characteristic usually only associated with mammalian species - intelligence.
