This painting is a favourite. I was staying with friends over Christmas and New Year on their property in the Southern Highlands. The weather was very unseasonal. Upon arrival, we donned jackets and other warm items of clothing and took the tour. While walking to the top of the high I took in numerous vistas. I knew I'd have to paint something while I was here. This painting had to be accomplished with great speed. One morning a drawing. The next morning the painting. Accompanied by window, I experienced all four extremes of season in one sitting. I love the English, European, French and American impressionists. The sense of colour and the immediacy of place. Hopefully that is what this painting has captured.
