For me as an Australian artist combining the art of sum-e painting with Australian animals is an eloquent and unique way to portray the beauty and character of my native Australian wildlife. Sumi-e, is a type of East Asian brush painting that uses black ink – as used in East Asian calligraphy. Using just simple black ink and carefully curated white space, sumi-e captures the timeless beauty and complexity of the natural world.
