This painting was made using rocks and charcoal found in nature, in the very environment that the painting depicts, the burned out remains of the 2009 Black Saturday fires. The pigments were crushed by hand and applied mostly by hand directly to timber panel. As I wander through the bush, I come across many kangaroos and wallabies. Often I hear them first, bounding away in the distance. As wild animals die, they receive no special ceremony , but when I'm in the bush I feel their spirit all around me.
As this piece is made with natural pigment directly on plywood timber, care should be taken not to disturb the surface and ideally the painting should be framed prior to hanging. The colour and tone of the timber base may shift over time.
Hand made, natural paints made from rocks, clays and charcoal, on 9mm plywood. Recommend framing.
