Artwork Description

Acrylic Paint on canvas

Signed with a certificate of authenticity.

‘Minyma tjuta ankupai ngura tjutanguru munu nganana tjunguringkula meeting wiru tjuta wangkara kulilpai.’ ‘Women travel from all over the country, coming together for meetings to share good ideas.'

‘Minyma tjuta nyinanyi putingka mai wiru urantjaku.’ ‘The women are out in the bush to collect healthy food.’

The women are represented as they have been for centuries by the 'u' shape left by in the sand after they have been sitting down cross-legged. The dots are like the patterns of different desert vegetation types and concentric circles linked by lines can represent waterholes and river courses or the travelling and resting places of Creation Ancestors and Anangu.

The women are collecting food as part of their Inma (ceremony) and are singing and dancing as they go. Anangu feel strongly about continuing to teach and learn Tjukurpa and their art is important and vital work. It sustains them economically, physically and culturally. It keeps the stories and traditions alive.
